Pull Test for Metallic Bone Staples
This test involves the testing of hard tissue pull-out fixation strength of metallic staples used in the internal fixation of the musculoskeletal system. The test measures the axial holding strength of metallic bone staples used to fix either soft or hard tissue to bone. The test involves taking a thin, flat, flexible metal or fabric strapping that is fixed to the bone using a single staple. Tension is applied axially at both ends of the strap in a direction parallel to the staple legs until loss of staple fixation occurs. The test is conducted in either an ambient condition or in aqueous or physiological solutions at either room temperature or 37ºC.
